There is a great discussion on Linkedin on end to end transition.

We share one great post with you today.

Is there any good book or website where I can get details of end to end transition phases. How it is initiated and closed.

Transition should start with
: – Due Diligence — where focus is to understand process , process performance matrices , expectation post transition and likes.
Followed by
: – Solution Preparation — where focus is on depicting the understanding gained during Due Diligence that includes (In-Scopes and Out-of-Scopes along the following four dimensions)
• HR related AS-ISs, TO-BEs and proposals that set credibility to transition from AS- ISs to TO-BEs
• Process/Service Delivery related AS-ISs, TO-BEs and proposals that set credibility to transition from AS- ISs to TO-BEs
• Risk Management/Disaster Recovery/Back-up planning related AS-ISs, TO-BEs and proposals that set credibility to transition from AS- ISs to TO-BEs
• Proposals related to gaining compliance certifications/clearances for the new service delivery centers.
Followed by
: – RFX Response – which typically has detailed solution along with References to past experience, Assumptions used while building solution and of-course….Commercials.

Then comes the real heat –NEGOTIATIONS!!!– along all the dimension described above. Its very very important to have Transition guys on the table during the negotiations as it would help in taking real time decisions.

Once through with the negotiations – formal MSA/SOW, which I assume to be finalized during negotiation phase, gets signed off.
Also, near the time of MSA/SOW signing first base-lined version of following documents gets agreed up-on and circulated to all the major stake holders from both Buyer side and Supplier Side
Major Program level documents with sufficiently drilled down operational level documents that include but not limited to:-
• Communication Plan
• Management System/Delivery Model/Reporting Structure/Escalation hierarchy
• Risk Management Plan
• SLA Documents (Phase wise)
• Disaster recovery/Contingency/Back-up Plans
• Knowledge Transfer Plans
• Knowledge Management Plans
• Skill/HR management plans
Above mentioned documents + Tool + Templates + Technology + Techniques + Common Sense + HUMAN TOUCH –> Successful Transition (which includes parallel perform, re-base lining of all the above mentioned documents etc.)
I tried to put forward a very simple and generic version of Transition Process.
Also, I would agree with, as mentioned in above mentioned posts – that each of PMP /PRINCE2/MSP could help gain theoretical and procedural knowledge required for Transitioning BUT three key ingredients for any successful transition are – COMMUNICATION , HUMAN TOUCH , EXTREME SENSITIVITY towards CHANGE MANAGEMENT.
